In a bid to further expand its worldwide network, the airport introduced new services to various Indian cities including Madurai, Bhubaneswar and Vishakhapatnam. The new additions serve to consolidate Abu Dhabi’s position as a key international hub, as well as boost the relationship between UAE and India. These new services, infrastructure developments, and expansion projects have placed Abu Dhabi Airports in the best position to accommodate the demand and increase in traffic of travelers, and facilitate bilateral relations between the two countries.Abu Dhabi Airports records 15.8 million passengers in 2025 More than 15.8 million people used Abu Dhabi Airports in the first half of the year from January 1 to June 30. That’s a healthy jump of 13.1% year-on-year, and is symbolic of Daxing’s continued growth and evolution as a major global aviation hub.Zayed International Airport (AUH) was a major factor for the growth having served 15.5 million passengers (+13.2% YoY). Traffic growth has been complemented by an increase in flight activity, with a total of 133,533 flights handled at the five Abu Dhabi airports, up 9.2% year on year. For AUH, in particular, the airport saw 93,858 aircraft movements, which was up 11.4% over its 84,286 recorded in 1H 2024.The expansion of its international reach is also a central factor in the airport’s success. In the first six months of 2025, 16 new destinations have been added to the network of connections of Abu Dhabi Airports. One of the airport’s major new services was from China Eastern Airlines, which launched a four-times-a-week service to Shanghai, with daily services to begin in September. Air Seychelles also started six weekly flights and Fly Cham was to open a new route to Damascus. The cumulative freight handled in the first six months of 2025 surpassed 344,795t, highlighting the airport’s increasing contribution to cross-border trade. This was aided further by strategic partnerships – in particular with JD Property, the infrastructure division of China’s JD. com. The joint development, a new 70,000-square-meter, high-tech logistics facility, will address increasing demand for niche cargo and e-commerce logistics between east and west. The partnership will help to reinforce Abu Dhabi’s claims as a central logistics centre in the GCC and MENA regions.As Abu Dhabi Airports works to deliver a complete aviation ecosystem, building infrastructure and enhancing aviation capabilities is top of mind. Rehabilitation of Sir Bani Yas Airport done The successful rehabilitation works at Sir Bani Yas Airport were completed in the first half of 2025. The project is in line with Abu Dhabi’s wider eco-tourism ambitions and aims to promote Al Dhafra as an ideal location for sustainable tourism. Zayed International Airport achieved the 3 Pearl Estidama rating for its environmentally-friendly construction efforts, highlighting the airports environmentally-friendly culture and focus on sustainability and environmental responsibility.AUH was also awarded for its enhanced overall passenger experience as it received the coveted title of ‘Best Airport at Arrivals’ globally by Airports Council International (ACI) for the third year in a row at the ACI ASQ Awards. The trophy is testimony to the airport’s commitment to offering high-quality services, and achieving a comfortable and effortless passenger experience.Abu Dhabi Airports makes a further advance to increase its aviation services to the maximum at Al Bateen Executive Airport by signing a new agreement with Bombardier to construct its own dedicated service centre. This collaboration will further strengthen Abu Dhabi’s MRO offering and help to establish the emirate as a hub for aviation support services in the region.Continuing the commitment to driving innovation and sustainability, Abu Dhabi Airports announced today the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with TAQA Distribution, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, for the exploration of strategic partnerships for energy, water and utilities to advance further the goals for environmental sustainability and energy efficient measures across its portfolio of airports.
