In a historic first, Taiwan made a spectacular debut at the LA Pride Parade, bringing a vibrant representation of its culture and values of inclusivity to one of the world’s most celebrated LGBTQ+ events. This momentous occasion provided the perfect opportunity for Taiwan to highlight its welcoming spirit, diverse cultural heritage, and progressive stance on LGBTQ+ rights. The showstopper, however, was the whimsical giant cup of bubble tea, filled with multi-colored pearls—an iconic Taiwanese drink that became the perfect metaphor for Taiwan’s message of diversity, unity, and inclusivity. Each pearl in the bubble tea reflected the unique and valuable contributions of different identities coming together to form a harmonious whole.
Standing tall atop the float was OhBear, Taiwan’s beloved mascot, embodying the nation’s warmth and friendliness. OhBear’s presence represented Taiwan’s commitment to being a hospitable and inclusive destination for everyone, regardless of their background or identity. Leading the parade was the Deputy Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, accompanied by the glamorous Miss Taiwanese American and her Court. Together, they added a touch of elegance and pride to the festive atmosphere, further reinforcing Taiwan’s message of inclusivity and unity.
Alongside the float, a team of enthusiastic volunteers, including members of Taiwan’s overseas community, marched in unison, showing their support for Taiwan’s values of inclusivity and equality. These volunteers, including passionate Taiwanese youth, engaged with the crowd, spreading the message of friendship and the welcoming spirit that Taiwan is known for. Also accompanying the float were representatives from Taiwan’s key tourism stakeholders, including China Airlines, EVA Airways, Lion Travel, and Mango Tours. Their presence emphasized Taiwan’s ongoing commitment to expanding its tourism offerings while fostering global connections.
The Taiwan Tourism Administration and China Airlines co-hosted an interactive booth at the Pride Village, inviting attendees to create custom Taiwan-themed pin badges and participate in the #DanceToTaiwan challenge. The booth served as a fun and engaging way for visitors to connect with Taiwan’s tourism offerings and win exciting prizes, including three round-trip tickets to Taiwan. This interactive experience perfectly captured the playful and engaging nature of Taiwanese hospitality.
