Hosted at the British diplomatic residence in Kuwait, the gathering brought together members of the local media, travel content creators, and influencers to explore the UK’s diverse tourism offerings. This special event served as a strategic platform to showcase Britain’s expansive tourism landscape, with a distinct focus on regions outside of London. The aim was to spotlight cultural, historic, and scenic destinations that offer rich and immersive experiences for international visitors. By encouraging wider exploration, the initiative hopes to spread the benefits of tourism across the entire UK and foster a deeper connection with travelers from Kuwait and the Gulf region.Among the highlighted experiences were Britain’s iconic summer events, which are major draws for both domestic and international visitors. Attendees were introduced to some of the season’s most celebrated happenings, such as the high-octane British Grand Prix at Silverstone and the world-famous Wimbledon tennis tournament. These events continue to elevate the UK’s global profile as a premier destination for sports tourism.Cultural festivities were also a central part of the presentation, particularly a series of events in the city of Bath celebrating 250 years since the birth of beloved British author Jane Austen. This milestone is being commemorated with exhibitions, literary walks, and period-themed activities that provide insight into the life and times of one of the country’s most enduring literary icons. Additionally, art lovers were encouraged to attend the Liverpool Biennial, the UK’s largest and most prominent festival of contemporary art, which attracts global artists and audiences. The overall objective was to encourage Kuwaiti travelers to move beyond the familiar attractions of London and discover the UK’s broader appeal—from coastal getaways and countryside retreats to historic cities, vibrant festivals, and heritage trails. The message emphasized that Britain offers a dynamic travel experience tailored to various interests, whether leisure, sports, history, or art.Kuwait continues to emerge as a significant contributor to UK tourism. In 2024, Kuwaiti travelers made approximately 162,000 visits to the United Kingdom, representing a 6% increase from 2023. This growing interest also translated into strong economic impact, with average visitor spending reaching £2,641. The Gulf region overall remains a crucial market, ranking as the tenth-largest source of inbound tourism to the UK. Within the GCC, Kuwait is forecasted to be the third-highest contributor in terms of visitor expenditure for the year.A key enabler behind this surge in travel has been the introduction of the UK’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme. This digital system simplifies the visa process for eligible travelers, making it easier to plan visits. Between February 2024 and March 2025, Kuwaiti nationals submitted nearly 149,000 ETA applications—the second-highest number in the Gulf, following Saudi Arabia. The ease of this process has made the UK more accessible than ever for leisure travelers from Kuwait.Air connectivity also plays a vital role in bolstering travel between the two countries. There are currently 16 direct weekly flights from Kuwait City to London, in addition to direct connections to Manchester. These routes provide travelers with convenient options for reaching not just the capital but also the northern regions of England, facilitating greater regional tourism spread.Together, these developments signal a strong and growing tourism relationship between the UK and Kuwait. With continued investment in accessibility, strategic marketing campaigns, and a rich calendar of events across the country, Britain aims to welcome even more Kuwaiti visitors in the coming years, while offering them unforgettable travel experiences far beyond London’s skyline.
