Under the newly launched schedule, the carrier will offer four return flights each week between the two capitals, equating to almost 80,000 passenger seats annually through Darwin International Airport.The Honourable Robyn Cahill OAM MLA, Minister responsible for Trade, Business, and Asian Relations, joined dignitaries and AirAsia officials to welcome the inaugural flight. AirAsia’s competitive pricing is set to boost inbound tourism and support local businesses, including hotels, tour operators, and other hospitality providers, while creating further regional employment opportunities.AirAsia Malaysia’s CEO underlined the airline’s commitment to broadening its Australian network to meet growing demand for affordable travel. He described Australia as one of the group’s critical markets for growth, expressing confidence that this new route will be warmly welcomed by travelers. The CEO added that the service would not only deliver the only nonstop connection between Darwin and Kuala Lumpur but also serve as a gateway to AirAsia’s extensive network of over 130 destinations throughout Asia and beyond, all at great value.The route will operate under AirAsia Malaysia’s AK flight code, providing four weekly services and more than 1,480 seats each week. To celebrate the launch, the airline announced special promotional fares starting at AUD219 one way from Darwin to Kuala Lumpur, and RM319 for travel in the opposite direction. These promotional tickets are available for booking until July 6, 2025, with travel valid through March 27, 2026, giving customers plenty of time to plan their journeys.The renewed air connection is also set to promote cultural exchange and tourism, giving Malaysian travelers easier access to the Northern Territory’s unique offerings, from spectacular national parks to Indigenous arts and culture.
