Through the proper reporting of data and the optimization of performance, the initiative is a significant step towards a better-performing and highly competitive industry. Through the engagement of significant stakeholders, the session fostered cooperation, allowing sector players to share ideas, address problems, and fine-tune data collection systems for the upcoming year. Through the exercise, the hospitality industry moves towards robust growth prospects through 2025 and beyond.The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) and Tourism Malaysia recently hosted a Hotel Data Refinement Session for the state of Sarawak. Held on the grounds of Hilton Hotel Kuching, the session was the initial event of such a nature for the year 2025 and was centered at refining data accuracy as well as monitoring performances for the local hospitality scene.Major Stakeholders Come Together to Improve Tourism in SarawakIt was formally inaugurated by the Deputy Director General (Planning) of Tourism Malaysia, Mr. Shahrin Mokhtar. The session also helped the new hotel officers become familiar with the knowledge necessary to properly discharge their duties.Facilitating Feedback and Industry Professional CollaborationAn integral segment of the session was the free platform for the players in the industry to exchange their suggestions, concerns, and input regarding how to improve the implementation and relevance of the survey. Members exchanged ideas about how to make the data better and what could ideally be improved upon in the process of reporting. Through such a discussion, it helps fine-tune strategies that become common denominators for the benefit of the entire industry as the hospitality industry continues to thrive while responding to the evolving needs of domestic and international visitors alike.Recognition of Significant Contributions to Tourism Data CollectionAs a gesture of goodwill for the tireless efforts of hoteliers that have been facilitating the survey program, Tourism Malaysia presented certificates of appreciation during the session. They were awarded to the participants that had demonstrated exemplary commitment to data submission, which was accurate and current. Apart from the certificates, the beneficiaries were likewise provided with Visit Malaysia 2026 marketing collateral, a tactical program aiming to enhance the country’s tourism image.Malaysia’s Growing Tourism Sector Continues to FlourishMalaysia’s travel industry continues to record robust post-pandemic revival. In 2024, the country recorded a resounding 38 million arrivals of foreign visitors, a 31.1% increase over 2023 and a 8.3% rise over the pre-pandemic year 2019. That healthy trend has been maintained through 2025, when 13.4 million visitors were recorded in the first four months, a 21.0% year-on-year rise. Singapore was the visitors’ largest source country, followed by countries such as Indonesia, China, Thailand, India, Brunei, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, as well as the United Kingdom.
