Partnership to focus on driving nature-positive tourism through the Caribbean The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and global not-for-profit organisation, Conservation International (CI) have entered into a ground-breaking partnership to develop and implement a sustainable tourism programme aimed at fostering nature-positive visitation CPC_00304 As the number one drawing card in the region, the Caribbean has a strong culture and economy built on its wealth of natural assets, including its pristine beaches, crystal clear waters, natural habitats and larger-than-life culture and heritage. The MoU among the partners, representing the newest and most innovative approach to sustainable tourism, was signed Tuesday June 11, 2025 at CTO headquarters in Barbados. Initiatives with nature-positive tourism models, innovative biodiversity protection and increased community well-being in Caribbean are at the core of the partnership.

The agreement aligns with CTO’s Reimagine 2025–2027 Plan, which seeks to implement bold, resilient, and inclusive strategies for the future of Caribbean tourism. Through the MoU, CTO and Conservation International will work together to protect the Caribbean’s rich natural heritage while uplifting local communities. The collaboration will emphasize sustainable tourism practices, including conservation-driven investments, the promotion of nature-based economic models, and support for community-led initiatives that protect both biodiversity and local livelihoods.

Under the terms of the agreement, CTO and Conservation International will collaborate on several key priorities. These include building sector capacity in sustainable tourism, encouraging tourism investment in conservation, and promoting regenerative economic models that foster resilience and sustainability in Caribbean tourism.
