This marks an 8.4% increase in employment from 2019, underscoring the tourism sector’s role as a critical driver of job creation.Domestic and International Tourism SurgeDomestic tourism is also expected to experience significant growth, with spending set to reach $12 billion by the end of the year. This represents a 6.5% increase from the previous year, further strengthening the country’s internal tourism market. By 2035, the industry is anticipated to contribute $34.3 billion to the national economy, or 8.5% of GDP. Employment in the sector is forecasted to rise to 1.4 million jobs, adding 278,500 new positions over the next decade. Spending by international visitors could reach $9.4 billion, while domestic spending is projected to exceed $16 billion, solidifying the travel and tourism industry as one of Peru’s most promising economic sectors.Regional Tourism Trends: Growth Across Latin AmericaIn a broader regional context, the travel and tourism sector in Central and South America is also expanding rapidly. In 2024, the industry contributed $358.7 billion to the regional GDP, which represents 7.5% of the total economic output. This is a 9% increase from 2019. The sector supported 17.5 million jobs, which represents 8% of the region’s total workforce, with a year-over-year growth rate of 4.4%.
