Türkiye aims to welcome 65 million tourists and generate $64 billion in tourism revenue by the end of 2025, a target that seems within reach based on current trends.Minister of Tourism and Culture, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, commented that the first-half tourism revenue was the highest ever recorded, expressing confidence that the country will achieve its annual revenue target. “We are on track to meet our goal of $64 billion in revenue,” he stated.Key Visitor StatisticsIn the first half of 2025, Türkiye attracted 26.39 million tourists, marking a 1% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The largest number of visitors came from Russia, Germany, and the United Kingdom, signaling strong international interest. Notably, the average per capita expenditure by visitors increased by 6.1%, reaching $981 in the second quarter, reflecting greater spending on a range of services and experiences.Spending Patterns and Key CategoriesThe tourism spending categories showed robust growth across various sectors:Package tours accounted for 31% of total tourism income.Food and beverage services contributed 19.4%.International transportation made up 12.8% of the total, seeing a 13.8% increase compared to last year.Spending on food and beverage rose by 13.7%, while tourism services increased by 12.5%, further demonstrating the sector’s expansion.Purpose of VisitA majority of the visitors, 71.1%, came for leisure, entertainment, sports, or cultural activities, followed by 16.8% who visited friends or relatives. Shopping accounted for 5.6% of the reason for travel. Turkish citizens living abroad were primarily motivated by family reasons, making up 60.7% of their travel purpose.Outbound Tourism TrendsOutbound tourism also saw a rise, with Turkish citizens spending $2.76 billion abroad in the second quarter of 2025. This marked a 41.1% increase compared to the previous year. Personal expenditures accounted for $1.85 billion, while $909 million came from package tour spending. However, the number of outbound travelers slightly declined by 0.5%, totaling 2.95 million, with an average spending of $936 per person.In the first half of 2025, tourism expenditures for Turkish citizens traveling abroad surged by 39.4% year-on-year, reaching $5.2 billion.
